Came across this digital postcard today and it reminded me of living in Sebring as a teenager and cruising down roads thick with groves on one side, and either an old diner or an aging housing development on the other. The only drive-in theater in the area was half way between Sebring and Avon Park with lots of groves on either side of the main road. Once is a while after the show (which always involved someone sneaking in by lying in the trunk) we'd take a turn off the main road and head down a little ways into the grove. Too dark, too abandoned, too much fear of hitting soft sand and getting stuck. Not a comforting feeling at night. But it was fun while it lasted and soon we'd be headed back to town to hit McDonald's or some house party we'd heard about. This of course was way before the days of cell phones and constantly knowing where the action was brewing. Some of the best nights of hanging out with friends was in the middle of my parent's pasture, listening to music and dreaming of the day we'd live in a city with a lot more activities to choose from.
